Art and Design

About Me

I was born in South Africa in 1942 and grew up in a farming community. Further education took me to Johannesburg School of Art to study Graphic Design, after which I spent several years with design and advertising firms.

In my 30th year I felt the call to join an Anglican Cistercian Monastery in Kent, UK and spent 13 years there before I left and became the East London Buddies coordinator for the Terrence Higgins Trust (HIV and Aids) in its early years, that being voluntary work, followed by three years design and display for hotels.
With the contacts I had made over time and sufficiently gifted working in different mediums, I was able to get commissions into Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, other city and rural churches, as well as abroad. As well as a few one man and shared exhibitions.
I would like my work to speak for itself, please click on the highlighted links below to see my portfolio.

Once I had got back into earning my own income, I started experimenting with mono printing, followed by Letraset design (dry transfer), leading on to life drawing, sculpture and body casting. Acquiring a few gemstones, I then turned my hand to abstract jewellery, which then lead on to my present ecclesiastical and applique work.
On reflection, there seems to be some sort of progression in what was going on in my mind getting me to my present medium.

I have known and admired Bernard’s work for over twenty odd years from sculpture through textiles/design to drawings and paintings.

I am the proud and delighted owner of five of his works which hang on the walls of my Central London flat and are savoured and enjoyed on a daily basis by all who see them.
